Welcome to the Rivershyre Swim Team. You will soon be part of a tradition of good swimming and fun. We are looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable summer. We hope this handbook will help you to prepare for the summer swim season.
Rivershyre Swim Team is part of the CSRA Swim League. There are approximately 21 teams divided into divisions based on size and previous year results. Each division is balanced yearly to provide the most equal competition possible. To see how the realignment is calculated, go to CSRA Swim League website to the competition section.
We desire a fun and learning experience for our swimmers while bringing our community closer together. Our goal is each child learns each swimming stroke, physically and mentally develops, learns good sportsmanship, develops new friendships, and maybe take their swim experience to the next competitive level in whatever sport they chose. We encourage any swimmer willing to swim to join our team. Somehow we will get them to the other side.
Rivershyre Swim Team expects the following practice behavior from each child:
Swimmers will enter the pool only after the coach gives the word.
Swimmers should not be noisy or disrupt the workout in any manner.
During workouts, swimmers are to pay attention to the coach, follow directions, and not waste time of others.
Workout time is not time for talking, horseplay or pushing to be first in line. (Everyone will get the same time)
Coaches have complete authority to enforce these rules, any violations will be cause for swimmers to leave the pool.
Repeated offensives will involve other action as determined by the coaches and the swim team’s board and could include suspension.
Abusive language, lying, theft, or vandalism are not tolerated and will warrant strict disciplinary action.
Parents are requested to consult the Rivershyre Swim Team President first on any concerns or issues they have with the team.
Swimmers are encouraged to support their teammates at practice as well in competition. This is an important aspect of the Rivershyre Swim Team spirit.

The maximum number of events a swimmer may swim is 5. A swimmer may enter a total of 3 individual and 2 relay events per meet. |
Each swimmer should remember that actions and words reflect on the team and should behave accordingly. All questions swimmers or parents have concerning meet results, or an officiating call should be directed to the coaching staff or team president. Please pick up and don’t trash the rest area. Swimmers are to pay attention to the meet especially the “now calling” board so they don’t miss their events. Shepherd volunteers will herd the younger swimmers to their appropriate positions. It is important that the swimmers stay in the rest area for their age group during the meet.
Stroke and Turn Judges watch the race and are certified Summer League or United States Swimming (USS) certified. Swimmers with improper form are disqualified and told why immediately after the swim heat, Swimmers should not be discouraged by a “DQ”. Most, likely all, team members and coaches have had the same experience. Swimmers will have another chance to improve and should be encouraged to work doubly hard in practice to improve the stroke.
Remember, swimming placement is based on times. Swimmers may place first in their heat and not place in the top six or eight ribbon winners.
Scoring
Individual Events | Individual Points | Relay Points |
1st Place | 5 | 8 |
2nd Place | 3 | 5 |
