About The Committee
Introduction - The Neighborhood Watch & Safety Committee needs your support and help. Our program has not been very active over the past two years and we would like to re-vitalize it. We are in need of persons from each of its villages to join in making The Villages of Rivershyre a safe and secure community. Please contact Darrell Speight (706) 868-9538 or email nwatch@rivershyre.org. If you have any suggestions on doing that or would like to help us out, please let us know.In order to have a safe neighborhood, residents need to be active in their community. Neighbors are encouraged to get to know each other (routines, vehicles, and children). If you see something suspicious, don't hesitate to report it. When you are going to be away from home, have your mail and newspapers held for you or ask a neighbor to collect them. Additionally, the Sheriff's Department has a "Vacation Check". Don't hesitate to use it!Our committee has prepared a Neighborhood Alert List and a Suspicious Persons & Vehicle Form to assist you. Our No. 1 priority is the safety of the Rivershyre Community ... help us to help you ... BE INVOLVED, BE ACTIVE

Neighborhood Watch & Safety's Safety Night Out program was a big success! The residents of Rivershyre made a good showing and by all accounts were not disappointed. There were plenty of refreshments served by Rivershyre's Social & Welcome Committee. The Columbia County Sheriff's office provide the 'File of Life packets and more are available by contacting the Neighborhood Watch Committee. Thank you, residents for your participation!" We look forward to your attendance at future Neighborhood Watch & Safety events.

Going out of town this summer? Call the Sheriff's Office House Watch Program, they'll keep any eye on your property for you. Register your home with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. This service, devised and implemented by Sheriff Clay Whittle, calls for a deputy sheriff to check your home several times daily while you're away. It's so easy to participate. Just call 541-2800 and inform the Sheriff's dispatcher you would like to place your home on the House Watch Program. Then answer a few simple questions pertaining to your home and that's it – enjoy your time away with peace of mind. (July, 2004) |
